The Season of Savate: From Guildford to the International Stage

There is a specific kind of energy that takes over the gym when a competition is on the horizon. The rounds feel sharper, the footwork gets lighter, and the focus becomes absolute.

As we look at the calendar for 2026, Formosa Kickboxing Academy (Bracknell Savate Club) has two massive opportunities to show the UK—and the world—what we are made of.

1. The British Savate Assaut Championships

Date: April 25th, 2026 | Location: Guildford Spectrum (GU1 1UP)

This is our immediate mountain to climb. Hosted by Greig Bradbury, this is a multi-style event featuring clubs from across the UK. For us, this means more than just fighting—it’s about exposure. We get to show practitioners of other martial arts the beauty, grace, and "fencing with the feet" that defines Savate.

Why You Should Step Up

  • For the Competitors: This is where you find out who you are as a martial artist. There is no better way to grow than to test your skills against someone you don't train with every day.

  • For the Supporters: A team is only as strong as its corner. I want a sea of our club shirts in the stands. Seeing your teammates in the crowd is what pushes a fighter through that final minute of the third round.

Training & The Roadmap to Guildford

Over the next few weeks, our training will shift focus to point-scoring, ring craft, and the stamina needed to dominate the mats.

Bonus Training: As part of our preparation for the Savate British Championships, I will be running an additional training session from 17:30–18:30, immediately after the regular class from 16:30–17:30. All members are welcome to join one or both sessions, and there will be no extra charge for attending both.

The Details:

  • Time: 10am – 3pm

  • Cost: £20 for fighters / £15 for spectators

  • Registration: I need your name, age, and weight (fighters) or name (spectators) by the April 11th deadline.

2. The London Savate International Open

Date: July 4th, 2026 | Location: Harris Academy Bermondsey (SE16 3TZ)

The momentum doesn't stop in April. We’ve been invited to the London Savate International Open, a prestigious event where clubs and athletes from around the world descend on the capital. If Guildford is our chance to stamp our name on the UK scene, London is our chance to test our mettle against international opposition.

Event Details

  • Level: Assaut (Seniors 18+; U18s by arrangement)

  • Schedule: 9am – 6pm, followed by a post-tournament party at 7pm!

  • Travel: Easy access via London Bridge or Bermondsey stations.

  • Cost: £30 per athlete / £10 for spectators.

Key Deadlines for London

  • Preliminary Registration: June 4th (Approximate numbers)

  • Full Registration: June 20th (Final roster and payment)
