10062025 - TRAINING FOCUS: SAVATE CHAMBER

Today's training is all about refining your chamber in Savate. This fundamental skill is crucial for both balance and striking power, as it allows for precise control and efficient force generation in your kicks.

Savate Chamber Drills (30-45 minutes)

  • Warm-up (5-10 minutes):
    • Light cardio (jogging in place, jumping jacks).
    • Dynamic stretches focusing on hips, hamstrings, and quads (leg swings, torso twists).
    • Ankle rotations.
  • Chamber Isolation (15 minutes):
    • Slow-motion chambers: Stand with good posture. Slowly bring your knee up to a full chamber position, holding it for 3-5 seconds. Focus on engaging your core and maintaining balance. Slowly extend and retract your leg, then lower it. Repeat 10-15 times per leg.
    • Wall-assisted chambers: Use a wall for support if needed to truly focus on the chambering motion without worrying about balance. Perform the same slow-motion chambers.
    • Chamber holds: Hold the chamber position for increasing durations (e.g., 10-15 seconds) to build strength and stability in the supporting leg and core.
  • Chamber with Light Kicks (10-15 minutes):
    • Chamber to light front kick: From a chamber, slowly extend into a front kick, focusing on the snap and retraction, then bring the leg back to a full chamber before lowering. Emphasize control over power. Repeat 10-15 times per leg.
    • Chamber to light side kick: Similar to the front kick, focus on the chamber before extending into a controlled side kick, retracting to chamber, and then lowering. Repeat 10-15 times per leg.
  • Cool-down (5 minutes):
    • Static stretches, particularly for the legs and hips.

Notes on Chamber Practice:

  • Balance is key: Pay close attention to your supporting leg and core engagement. Imagine a string pulling you up from the crown of your head.
  • Control over power: For today's session, prioritize precise movement and control over generating maximum force. The power will come as your chamber becomes more efficient.
  • Visualise: Picture a perfect chamber from your Savate sessions and try to replicate it.

Personal Updates & Finances

It's great to hear about the invitation to KT011 Kombat Taekwondo France! It's completely understandable that air ticket costs are a concern, especially with a tight budget. Let's hope for a better financial situation in the coming year to make such opportunities more accessible.
